NACo Reentry for Safer Communities

Several states and counties are piloting or administering re-entry programs for offenders. The National Association of Counties (NACo), in cooperation with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), convened a “Reentry Focus Group” involving leaders from various associations and agencies to discuss the issues.

The end product is the exceptionally well-conceived and written “Reentry for Safer Communities: Effective County Practices in Jail to Community Transition Planning for Offenders with Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorders.” This 2008 publication highlights some of the more innovative programs from around the country.
